Saying no to overtime on this day

I’m contracted to 8hr a week we have patterned days one of mine is a week end day which I’m fine with but recently I’m being hounded in to doing the other weekend day and I just can’t do it with family commitments. Where do I stand with this? Im doing the 8hr already so this would be overtime can I say no? I can move a day around but I just can’t do a full week end and it’s causing me so much stress thinking about it

Just say, ‘I can only work my contracted hours.’ That’s what I say if my manager ever needs me to do more than 16 hours. I literally can’t. They can’t force you to do more than your contracted hours so try not to worry

You need to check your employment contract OP to see what you agreed to. Some companies do include overtime in contracts making it compulsory, if that’s the case then you would have to do it or you’d be in breach of contract.

It does mention overtime something like when the business requires it but surly that means I can’t preplan or book anything in the future just for minimum wage 8hr contract I'm also not paid extra for the overtime just to add salt to the wounds 😂 I can could possibly swap my weekend days so I’m flexible in that way just can’t do both

They want you to come in for an extra day and not pay you? That would be a big fat no from me!

No sorry I do get paid just normal MW I always thought you did and was told I would but turns out it’s just few £ for the holiday pay it’s my fault for not checking but I only stared this job as casual temp now I’m permanent

If it’s mentioned in your contract then you have agreed to it so you are required to do it yes. Quite a lot of employers do this now including big ones like Nissan. Unfortunately if it is in your contract and you’ve signed it then it’s either do the overtime or find new employment.
