Hi,

I have applied for a band 5 admin role within the NHS, does anyone have any tips or any questions that usually come up or came up in your interview? it’s for a specialty manager role.

Thanks :)

Read up what you can about the specialty & their targets/kpi’s. Also what software systems they use.
What transferable skills you can bring to the role.
A good knowledge of GDPR & data security.
How you will use data in the role.
A challenging situation, how you handled it & what was the outcome, even if the outcome wasn’t what you wanted say that & say what you learnt from it.
How you prioritise your workload whilst supporting others.
Incorporate the trust’s values & behaviours.

Perfect thanks for the advice, I will definitely incorporate the above in my answers :)

Hi if you Google band 5 nhs interview questions, you’ll find some online. Do have something prepped about diversity/inclusion. Good luck!

TeenLifeMum · 17/04/2024 11:11

Mention compassionate leadership.

I’d expect there to be a question on prioritising workload.

AquaSloth · 17/04/2024 16:37

@Shesaidshelistened I have tried to Google some but they all keep coming up with hand 5 nurse when this is service manager role so I haven’t had much luck!

Will they allow you to visit the department ahead of time? It would give you an idea of how they work and you may find out some handy information as you're being shown around.

AquaSloth · 17/04/2024 19:58

What would you recommend is said about diversity and inclusivity ?

For equality diversity & inclusion.
If the dept communicates with patients, making sure all info is inclusive to different languages, but also people with SEND. Also include reasonable adjustments for your staff if needed.
Talk about how EDI has influenced your working life, how you would speak up if you saw/heard a colleague or patient being treated in a discriminatory way. Mention freedom to speak up.

Amazing thank you, I have prepped something for this now @Offredismysister

@Saintmariesleuth unfortunately I was unable to do this, this time around!

In addition to the other very good suggestions, if asked about a challenging situation, explain how you managed it, but also elaborate on how you learned from it and how you have/ would put this learning in to practice if something similar arose. Have you adapted how you do a task as a result of this?

They might ask about how you have managed change- see NHS model for change. Compassionate leadership is at the heart of successful change is the key point.
If you have implemented a quality improvement project, talk through the process using a framework- The PDSA cycle fits here.

Best of luck in the interview. If it helps with nerves, remember you are interviewing and assessing them too!

@Saintmariesleuth This is so helpful, thank you so much! I will pop on the post to let you know how I got on. I will look at the NHS model for change now.
