Any advice on the below would be helpful!
Started a new role just over 7 weeks ago, new sector and completely new role for me so lots of change! Was told there would be lots of training/shadowing and developmental opportunities. So far I have received very minimal training and this means I am able to limited aspects of my role. Most days I have completed everything before lunchtime and am left twiddling my thumbs waiting for any other tasks to come in. I have had no check ins/informal chats with my manager so not sure if I am performing as expected or not? I don't feel part of our small team (they're all more senior) as they sit in a separate office to me. I'm starting to dread coming into work and debating booking a day off next week just so I don't have to look busy and come in!
I was also told the role was hybrid but so far I have been in the office everyday. Any advice on what to do? Feeling deflated and unsure this role is for me.
Thanks x

Are there any opportunities for you to improve your knowledge yourself? I had a role a few years ago where I felt utterly lost- I would go to meetings and not have a clue what they were talking about.

I don’t know what the sector is but in mine there are a lot of resources online- regulations, guidance documents and free to access training materials- so I spent my down time training myself.

If there’s nothing online could you look at the company systems to see if there is work you can read through to get a better understanding of the work? Do they have a training folder with resources in it?

Have you reached out to your manager to ask about training, your progress anything else you can do or help with? It might be worth requesting a 30 minute catch up to ask if there’s anything else you can be doing. If you can back that up by showing you’ve been proactive in training yourself then all the better.

I’m currently in a senior role which occasionally has down time- when that happens I email the team asking them to contact me with any work if there’s anything I can help with. As well as potentially stopping me from twiddling my thumbs it shows management that I’m keen to work and the down time isn’t due to me.

Regarding the hybrid element- are they telling you to come in every day?

Good luck! I’m hopefully going to be starting a new role soon and I’m dreading the uncertainty and feelings of being a bit lost that come with that.

Thanks for the reply! Yes I have been reading different articles/resources online, doing some free courses which have helped slightly.
I think I need to be more proactive and book in some time with my manager next week to discuss how things are going as it doesn't look like it will be happening otherwise!
Yes in everyday, said once passing probation we can look at the options?
Just feel quite isolated from my team and unsure of what my role is, it used to be done by 3 people previously so presume they had eachother to bounce off and support!
