Sessional work on a zero hours versus a freelance basis - advantages and disadvantages

I recently applied for some sessional work (something like an exercise class instructor) and had the impression that it was on a freelance basis. However, it has turned out to be a sessional but zero hours contract. I already do freelance work for other organisations.

This has slightly thrown me, as my expectations were that it would be freelance work. I have been offered the role and am waiting to hear more but would be interested in other people's views. The work is allocated on a timetabled basis whereby you give your availability about a month in advance.

What are the advantages or disadvantages of a sessional zero hours contract in this situation? I am normally quite clued up on work-related matters, but the mismatch between what I thought versus what it it turned out to be has thrown me for some reason!

Would it be pensionable? What about PAYE and NIC? Do these arrangements tend to be fairly flexible? Thanks.
