Unlimited annual leave

Anyone else who gets "unlimited" paid annual leave as part of your employment conditions, how does this work in reality? It's a new thing for me and I'm not sure what would be reasonable. Want to maximise the benefit without taking the piss.

Technically I don't, but noone checks anything so I tend to take more than I'm allowed. Normally take 10-12ish weeks off a year. I do my job and more. I am really productive during the weeks I'm in so I don't feel guilty in the slightest. I was very frank with my line manager when I started and she decided to turn a blind eye.

Son has this.
it means he doesn’t take much as they don’t allow it if the “ business needs you “ though.

nasty technique I think.

It's good for businesses because they set the contractual limit at the minimum legally required - sell to employees the benefit of this additional "flexi time off"

Yet when they leave they are only entitled to the legal minimum prorated as per their contract ;)

I buy extra so I have 60 days, but I don't tend to take it all. It's all in the system though so can be tracked. I think if I had unlimited I'd probably take about 5-6 weeks proper holiday then one day off every 3 weeks or so, more or less as duvet days. My work is very much about delivering rather than hours though and Friday is pretty dead so no one would miss me. I normally work in the office. I think WFH colleagues normally take a few chilled Fridays where they just check emails anyway

I worked somewhere and one year they were struggling financially. They offered unpaid leave during the most quiet time . I think everyone signed up for this extra leave, there was more demand than there was time to take it. In the end they had to allocate a few days each.
