New rate of pay - not happy

I started a new job in December, am very happy here. I'm experienced in what I do.

When i started my role was supervisory and the pay was agreed at £11.50 ph for the responsibility this carried which was at the time £1.08 above minimum wage.

fast forward to today and I receive an email from hr with my new rate of pay (expecting it as nmw has risen) my new rate of pay is £12.00 ph. (56p above minimum wage)

This is effectively a pay cut isn't it?

In a way over the past few decades everyone has got closer to minimum wage as it has increased. Doesn’t help you but it’s a wider issue.

You got a pay rise after 3 or 4 months of joining. Not sure what the issue is as you aren't actually supervising anyone or anything - it's a very misleading title. If you aren't happy with £12 an hour then find a job that pays better.

Looks like I may just have to suck it up then, I should have clarified when I started that it would increase at the same rate but it seemed like a stupid thing to ask. I just assumed that the role was worth that much more than minimum wage to them 3 months ago, that it would still be case when it increased. Just feel devalued somehow.

I think many will now be in your position. Previous hourly rates, which were enough above the NMW to make a difference, are suddenly just a few pence above.
It is great that national minimum hourly rates are closer to what is actually needed, and it is long overdue, but I can understand how you feel that your income seems lessened as a result.
I hope you have a forward thinking employer who values you and gives you an increase.

The issue with the NMW is that it results in many jobs effectively being overpaid vs market forces. The knock on effect of this is that the next level up now appears poor value in terms of pay in comparison.

I’d advise ignoring the comparison with NMW jobs and instead consider the comparison with the salaries for the level above your role as they will be set at true market value rather than the artificially inflated NMW roles.

There are many responsible roles bring paid NMW now, due to the increases we have seen.

Recently at work they have decided to monitor us. This done by sitting next to you watching you work for the full day and taking notes I find this quite uncomfortable. On the first day my manager didn't even move at lunch time! Also I looked over and saw a note saying that I fidget. Is this normal! Views please x

No, this is not normal at all.
