The other thread I started didn't really go the way I wanted so a new start

I have
*excellent maths/basic accounts skills
*Basic written english
*Good (towards excellent) admin/organisational skills
*I don't mind talking to people/presenting
*I hate working towards targets - they annoy me - I do my best a target won't make me work any harder
*I am too nice as a boss
*I don't take instructions well

So what can I do?

Just seen your other thread and have realised I have seen your threads before! So surely you don't really want to give up your dream do you? You need to think of another way of getting to where you want to be. Easier said than done I know! Will have a think and post on your other thread.

KatyMac · 28/03/2008 21:25

I don't want to work in a shop
I haven't the stamina to work in catering anymore

Yes - I could go for that

How do I do it?
I need a degree and a TT year? or is it different now

I guess F/T uni is a possibility

Project management? In a child-related field?

I suggest that because that's what I do and I love it. If you like the sound of it, try your local voluntary sector organisations/children's centre etc.

KatyMac · 28/03/2008 21:34

Project Management? I used to do that? What sort of stuff do you do?

is self-employment a possible? How about being a de-clutterer/life-laundry person for the less organised/hoarder. you sound a well-organised person
I really want to do that also but don't know how to get started (beyond downloading a "Declutters Guidebook" from an american site.)

Prufrock · 31/03/2008 18:11

katy are there any schools near you with pre-schools/afterschool clubs attached? I am chair od a pre-school committee and would love to be able to employ someone like you to be a manager, or even to employ your company to run the pre-school - there are commercial companies that do it but they are too commercial, wheras I think you could fit in very well with a parent run organisation

dizzydixies · 31/03/2008 18:14

am dong a course in event management?

KatyMac · 31/03/2008 22:51

They are interesting ideas, beckyvicky I am S/E atm - so I don't think that would matter - but I am definately not a de-clutterer I'm more of a put it away you'll need one if you get rid of it

I went to mu local school Prufrock & offered before/After/Holiday plus nursery - but they turned me down as it was too big (unfortunately these things have to be a minimum size or they don't break-even)

Event Management - hmm - might work - How much is the course?

dizzydixies · 31/03/2008 23:02

sorry Katy, only just saw this

I'm doing an HNC course as have been away from further education for nearly 7yrs now

there are degree courses and even masters on offer these days depending on where you live

I'm in scotland so can only tell you about the scottish ones

my hnc, distance learning, self funding is about £1200

you could do eco friendly children's events/parties/education etc

don't give up on your dream completely - just alter is slightly
