Pls tell me I'm being stupid.

I have changed my user name for this. I started working in a private school about 2 years ago. My son and daughter are 14 &13. I was going to leave and they have offered me a bursary for the kids to do the GCSE/A-levels at the school I work in if I don't leave
I don't love my job but I am good at it. For reference it's one of the top academically Achieving schools in the UK. I feel like I would be stupid to turn this down. The bursary is 100%.
Wwyd?

Thanks. Yes I can retun at any time. The wages at the school are comparable and I am not a teacher.

Get it in writing though, you don't want them changing their minds after GCSE or a few years because of their rising costs or whatever and then you having to pull the kids out and back into state school for A-Levels.

lookwhatyoudidthere · 01/04/2024 12:50

I'd stay. Private secondary schools can easily run to 30k per kid/year. What an amazing offer!

MathsFiend · 01/04/2024 12:55

Are there any tax implications? If it is contingent on you working there, the surely it is benefit in kind and so taxable?

Ilivetosleep · 01/04/2024 13:06

I do have it in writing. It's all arranged ro start next academic year. All set. They even have tutor groups arranged.
I don't know about tax implications. I'll have a look.

Thanks for all the comments.

If you are not actually miserable, your kids are positive about the school and the a
wages are comparable then I’d say it’s a no brainier. A school like this provides a lot of opportunities, not just the academics.

Ilivetosleep · 01/04/2024 13:08

The school want to expand and one of their core values is the role in am in. They didn't have anyone employed doing this full time before. In order to get good ISI results and get the cajrotablw funding. They need to evidence they are excelling in the area I am working in. It's more than one site. Multiple sites.

You're so lucky!
Well done. I would stay 100%!
What an amazing opportunity for your children, especially if state secondary around you only "ok".

Barrenfieldoffucks · 01/04/2024 13:17

Unless it was making you thoroughly miserable I would stay as a gift to your kids.

SmileLady · 01/04/2024 15:31

Wow go for it!!! What a great benefit!!

What are the options for your children if you leave? What are the fees?

Good question.i think if I choose to leave they have the option to remain in the school un till the end of the nearest term. Then they must leave also. But if I am made redundant or sacked etc then they can stay till the end of the academic year.

The fees are about 30k a year. I think.

I am in a situation similar. Get 70% off fees as an employee of a £30k+ school. Job is dull, boring etc. But DD is having an excellent opportunity. Will have to stay for at least 3 years. Maybe 5. It's fine. Happy to sacrifice this for her.

greenbeansrock · 17/05/2024 07:25

what did you decide OP?

Ilivetosleep · 17/05/2024 11:22

Hi. I've been meaning to update this! I decided to stay. Who else is going to give me 60k a year. The oldest kids are happy about it too. Let's see how it goes!

PickledPurplePickle · 17/05/2024 12:22

Great news, as long as the kids are happy and you can afford the tax on the benefit
