Trying (and failing) to get into internal recruitment

I have worked in recruitment for 19 years, 9 years of that I have had my own business (only myself in it).

I have made a decision to move into internal recruitment, for a variety of reasons, but am 100% sure this is the path I want to go down.

But I can't even get an interview.....

I have been told (by the companies who DO get back to me) that they want someone with internal recruitment experience, which confuses me as reading the job requirements and speaking to two friends who went from external to internal recruitment (who are now a lot higher up in their companies in HR) I have all the skills and experience to do the roles.

I didn't know if anyone can help.....most of the companies just send a 'we won't be progressing your application at this stage' email so I can't even go back to them to ask for more feedback.

I have tried to contact people in HR at these companies via LinkedIn, but the companies I'm applying to all have large HR teams, so I don't know if I'm even trying to speak to the right person.

I work in internal recruitment and the competition for any talent acquisition role right now is really high, loads of experienced people on the market (agency and in house) that can’t find anything.

Thanks for replying @Crystalineknowledge

it’s just frustrating as I know you’re right, but also know I would be really good at it (which I know everyone says!).

My friends say that AI is also used in the first ‘sift’, and even though I’m tailoring my CV to the job spec I’m not even getting a first interview.

Would you recommend going direct to hiring managers (if I can find them!)?

I’d probably not go direct to hiring managers but using your network would maybe get more results.

Would you consider public sector? my last role was public sector and we actively wanted agency recruiters to bring in a direct sourcing team (to save money!) I think the job market is a bit suppressed due to election and new financial year - fingers crossed it picks up soon for you

I actually contacted someone in the NHS today who wanted to see me 2 years ago for an internal role, and I'm more than happy to look at public sector (my husband works in the NHS) and have been looking at local council careers pages.
I just want an opportunity to prove I CAN do it.
I also found out today that one role I applied for (and got a 'thanks but no thanks' email back) was generated by AI, and the hiring manager hasn't even looked at CV's yet, so I'm up against a bloomin' computer to even get a 1st interview.
