I had an interview lined up yesterday. Wasn't really sure I wanted it and had been arranged in a hurry (although they had already seen several people).
When I got there, I didn't much like the feel of the place and had pretty much decided it wasn't somewhere I would want to work.
I was handed an application form to fill in that said 'for office use only' on the front. The first page asked for my date of birth and there were multiple pages asking for health and medical history and a ridiculous self evaluation thing at the back.
The business already had my cv. I was left in a little room on a sofa with this form to complete.
Eventually, when I saw a member of staff, I told them I didn't feel comfortable filling in all that personal information before I had even had an interview. I knew there was no way I would want to work there, so I withdrew and left.
Surely this cannot be okay? Asking for all this information prior to interview? Is this some sort of data protection breach or can they get away with asking these things, claiming they are 'for office use only' to cover their backs that they aren't considered in the recruitment process?
