Work

I just don't know what to do

I've been looking for work on and off pretty much since the end of lock down, enjoying looking after DD which I never did when she was first born.
I've enjoyed looking after her but now she is at school, I've got to get back to work because I simply can't take being at home anymore.
I wanted to use the opportunity to try something new but I'm having very little luck finding anything that fits even remotely around school hours - most actually mean I'd see almost nothing of DD and still be left doing nothing during school hours.
I've been in contact to employers in my old field but they can only offer full time and long full time at that. This would be as well as a 2 hour commute each day.
Child care is doable but certainly not ideal. DH wage would still be the main one by a very long way.
I feels so god damn useless at the moment and unhappy that I don't know if I should take it but it would mean being away from dd for a lot of the time.

Hi OP, I suppose you need to think about whether you just want “a” job or “the” job. There are definitely jobs going that are during school hours (although may overlap into needing breakfast/after school club), but they may not be jobs you ideally want, or jobs you’ve done before. Companies like Sky, BT, EE, AA for example are almost always hiring customer service staff, on the phones, a lot of the roles are full time home working if you choose to do that. They tend to be shifts so you may need childcare or DH to share pick ups but it’s doable.

Equally lots of stores like Asda, Tesco, Morrisons as well as local cafe’s and pubs are always hiring for staff available to work Mon-Fri day times because they have plenty of students who can do the weekends but need the mid week staff.

You’ve also got roles like cleaners for schools, offices or care homes which tend to be working 6am-9am and then 2pm-4pm, so leaves plenty of time after work/school.
