My husband just left me and i havent worked for 13 years. I also live abroad ( british but expatriated). i desperately need a job. I worked in marketing for years, but am in my second year of a creative writing masters and really want to set myself up as a freelance writer so i can continue living in the country my kids are being schooled in. Despite my 25 years experience I am getting turned down for even below minimum wage jobs. I cant work out if its because im too old, too far away, too many years out of work, too experienced. I dont know, and wondered if anyone could recommend a careers adviser

Is it a job English speaking country? If so English teacher or tutor sounds like the obvious choice. He should be providing financially thoigh so you can keep living there if you're married. You need to seek legal advice to work out where is best to file for divorce- probably Uk

I know quite a few Freelancers, many of them in Copywriting, and they are finding things very very tough right now and these are highly experienced UK based people with lots of recent experience/references and good contacts.
Sorry to be negative but you might want to consider doing something else

Aren't fully remote jobs (in the sense that you don't even have to live there) almost impossible to find? Have you tried UpWork?

But you're not resident in the UK, so a UK employer can't take you on because it would create tax and legal problems for them to have employees in a different country.

That's why you're being turned down.
