Many places won't take until at least 16 or legal school leaving age - the end of June in y11.

If you are going for a job in small local places you can probably hand in a cv. Chains / supermarkets etc all do it through indeed.

It took my 15yo about 6 weeks to find a job - she got offered one 2 weeks before turning 16 but could not start until she was 16.

He could offer odd job help or car washing or babysitting on a local Facebook group or 'I'll sell your things on Vinted for half the profit'

Make sure you meet people from any homes he goes into thoigh

You’ll find it very difficult to get a job that isn’t something like car washing or babysitting, however that is generally family friends and word of mouth.

The only jobs I’m aware of for that age group are paper rounds and football referee. The refereeing involves a course, but is good money imo.

At 16 more opportunities are open to them.

At 15 I had done pot washing in a kitchen and working in a takeaway, that was in the 90s though and laws probably stricter now.

Informal tutoring is an option to add to the usual babysitting and drive-tidying type stuff.

We used to have guys going around the estate offering to clean windows or mow lawns or wash out bins. They obviously had no experience but people gave them a chance. Best of luck to him, it’s so hard, my son is 16 and has started going into all the shops. They’re telling him to go to the hotels and delis but he’s a fussy eater so won’t do anything with food. We told him he can’t be fussy with a job but apparently it’s his big deal breaker!

The first thing is that he needs to get the job, not you.

My lads did jobs in a local pub from 14, picking up plates/ glasses, cutting grass, and generally, dogsbody, they moved on to food prep at 16. One became a chef.

My DS got a job at 14 in a restaurant. He’s always been front of house, but the majority seem to start as KP/potwash.
He needs to go with a Cv and ask. When they offer him a trial shift he needs to show willing and be prepared to earn his wages. Best of luck to him!
