Where to seek help improving linkedin profile and finding a mentor?

I'm 45 and have been a journalist/editor/copywriter in a specialised field for about 25 years - mainly freelance but I also work part-time as an editor. I'm busy enough with work, but can never seem to make more than £50k these days as rates have fallen over the years, and I work harder than ever before. It's quite frustrating. I want to evolve and increase my earnings potential (I live in London), particularly with the threat of AI taking jobs in this area. As a starting point, I'd like to improve my LinkedIn profile and know how to make better use of this platform - and also find a mentor. I want someone who can tell me what skills I could learn and how I could move forward at this stage of life. I am thinking of content strategy/consultancy work perhaps. Anyway, I don't want a coach (tried that, but didn't like it - too vague and didn't feel right for me).
Any tips please on where I can seek help in these areas? Thanks!

I know an amazing LI coach who is really genuine and not just trying to sell your course after course - I can send you her details if you like (its not me).
I do mentoring but not in your field so cant help with that though

If you're worried about AI, I wouldn't take the content strategy route - it's even more replaceable than copywriting.

Are you willing to pay for a mentor, or are you looking for one who will work for free?

Lea Turner is brilliant at LinkedIn, and does 1:1 training as well as a course etc.

As someone who uses LinkedIn quite alot to find jobs I have the following small tips, but a professional mentor is probably a good shout!

  • Have a nice professional looking profile photograph with some smart clothes that show a bit of your personality I.e. statement jewelry, colourful top etc.
  • Expand your job listings to add your key responsibilities, projects etc. so a prospective employer gets a better idea of your experience.
  • change your profile to actively looking for work. This will let everyone in your network, recruiters etc. know that you are available. I have been approached for possible jobs by doing this.
  • try and add anyone you think might be helpful in your job search. Often they will add you even if they've never met you to expand their own network! You can add a personal message if it feels relevant but you don't always need to!
  • try to add some posts around your speciality i.e. a recent networking event or training session you went to, some insights on your profession. Try to tag as many relevant organisations, key words as you can. It makes you look active in your industry and be the first person they think of when they are looking to fill a role.
  • in the same vein comment on other people's/ organisations posts even if it's just something along the lines of 'well done' or 'interesting post'
  • LinkedIn frequently offer free 30 day trials for their professional mode which lets you see who has looked at your profile etc. Sign up and just remember to cancel before you start paying!

Hope that helps and good luck!

Thank you @steelwings that's super helpful! I really appreciate you taking the time to share those tips. I'll definitely make use of these...

@Hoppinggreen yes please, I'd be interested to learn more about this person and what they offer.

@YouveGotAFastCar that's v interesting about content strategy - why do you think that? I thought copywriting is most at risk...I edit a lot, so perhaps that makes my role a little safer, and I have specialist knowledge, but even so...I worry! It feels quite vulnerable to be midlife and now having to take on AI...
I asked a fellow writer what to learn to make myself more immune, and they said SEO and content strategy, but I've no idea really.

I know nothing about mentors really - except that I feel finding someone in my field (ahead of me) who can push me forward at this stage would be useful. I would consider a coach - but the right one who focuses on skills development, etc.
