Quiet quitting

I've had enough of my job. Am 54, tired, burnt out and sick of the corporate bullshit. My workplace is becoming toxic in terms of the expectation on people. I want out, but with 20+ years service I want a payout. I'm quiet quitting - has anyone ever been successful in getting redundancy by doing that? I've even considered getting signed off with stress. I'm not sleeping, and it's not good for my health.

Interesting idea @Propertylover but I don't think they'd allow me to drop my hours any more than I have done already. He's actually trying to persuade me to go back FT.

@Floofydawg thats a shame.

OP I quietly quit since Covid and made it made it clear last year if there were redundancies that I would be happy to go. I have now been offered it. It’s only because our company is fucked though and they need people to go.

have you tried asking for redundancy?

Sassylassy18 · 13/03/2024 18:51

I'm going through similar but in my mid 40s, so I've got a long time in the rat race yet. Dreaming of a redundancy pay out so I can retrain in a field that offers more flexibility to work around my kids. The only issue I see is that if they make me redundant, they lose the headcount which they really can't afford to do. So may be trapped for a while yet. I am so over the corporate world and all the emotionally draining politics that goes with it. Solidarity Flowers

@BeethovenNinth I have hinted to my boss. Maybe I need to be less subtle. We don't have enough people in the team to do the work but he could replace me with someone cheaper who is willing to work FT.

"Why can't I be allowed to slow down?"

Because that's not what you are contracted to do.

54 is 15 years off retirement

It's 4 years off retirement if he has a private pension and/or ISAs. Ain't no way I'm working til I get the state peanuts pension. I hope OP has invested and can use that horizon as motivation to get through the next 4yrs

OP I may be wrong but I don't think they can make your position redundant and then offer it to someone else.

54 is one year off the age you can draw a private pension but it's changing to 57 just before I get to 55. And is meant to be going up again so that it's 10 years before the state pension.

Bloody hell. I'm glad I'm 55 later this year. Bastard government.

Well that’s me screwed then!!😀

I’m 60 and definitely retiring this year and no way could work until 69!! And yes - I worked 4 days a week from 55.

A lot of people feel tired as they get older.

The OP is getting a very hard time on here. Why are people so aggressive?
