Redundancy question - ring fencing

Marmablade · 08/03/2024 16:44

If your post is made redundant and 3 of you are ringfenced for 1 position and 1 of you gets it, do the other 2 get made redundant at that point? Is there an expectation they have to/need to apply for other jobs in the business (that they are less suited to or don't want to do) or they won't get redundancy money? Thank you for your advice.

My company had this exact scenario 2 months ago. The 2 are automatically made redundant and there is a choice whether to apply for other jobs (in which case redundancy is redacted) or you take redundancy. You cannot be forced to change your job to one you don't want.

The council I work for you automatically get put on a redeployment register and they seek to 'match' you with a suitable role if you don't get the new role. You cannot 'unreasonably' refuse a role that's deemed a match or you lose your redundancy.

This is helpful thank you.

It's a company rather than a council @MuggleMe as I know about redeployment pools. I'm ignorant about how it works in businesses. I'm getting my ducks in a row if it comes to the worst. I only want 1 job as there really isn't anything else in the business I can do well!

Sorry me again.

If your position is made redundant do you have to go for the new job that is created? As I understand it the reason you're made redundant is because the new job is a less than 70% match of your previous role, hence you aren't slotted in to the new role. If the new role doesn't suit you can you not apply for any of the new roles and just accept redundancy?
