Not feeling work at all

This might not be the best place to put this but will try.

Am 52, have been contracting for past 4-5 years in temp roles, some longer than others. Have had permanent job interviews in past year or so, did fairly well but didn't get them. Currently working on a contract due to end the end of this month but been there since last November. They sold it to me as 'this role will be advertised on a permanent basis and you should apply' plus lots of training/L&D ops too. The organisation isn't really my area of interest and EA's (which I'm one) only stay in this role for a year then they move on to other roles (it's in central gov).

My main thing is - I feel disillusioned with work. I want/need to retrain but not 100% sure about where. I just feel a lot of the time I CBA but am way too young and can't afford to retire nor go part time yet. Could do a 4 day week.

So, is this normal? I used to have a lot of enthusiasm for work but now, I really don't! My two best friends are similar, one's an auditor in construction and other works in comms in religious field. Both can't wait to retire.

I think lots of people feel like that. If you can afford it, a 4 day week might make it more tolerable and allow space for you to build more activities outside of work or develop other skills to move into something more interesting. Can make it easier to not be so affected by draining work situations.

Have you seen the retraining board if you're considering your options?
