Making Mistakes

I'm really feeling the pressure with work and other things going on in my life.

It's been really busy and I've done lots of overtime. I've made some stupid mistakes and I am worried I am going to be pulled up about them.

I generally feel depressed about my life and put on a happy front and now I've got all this to worry about too.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Own your mistakes and learn from them. If someone pulls you up on a mistake, don’t get defensive, just acknowledge it and explain that you realise what went wrong but also that you now know what to do in future. Good employers want people who are engaged and willing to learn, and will understand that making mistakes can be an important part of that process.

I think that goes a long way to helping. Everyone who has ever succeeded made many mistakes along the way, but they responded to them in the right way.

Everybody makes stupid mistakes, Everybody. I still cringe when I think of some of mine.

Own up to them, admit you did it and why and what system you're putting in place so they don't happen again. The most important bit in that is own up and do it straight away, preferably before anyone finds out. I was told right at the start of my career (1970s) that managers will be so surprised you're holding your hands up and taking the blame that you'll probably totally defuse the situation, because most employees try and weasel out of it.

Are you being micromanaged. I was and nearly put on pip.
During COVID my manager WFH and never returned and never took an interest in my work
After that I became astar performer

Why did you make the mistakes? Do some root cause analysis (five why's) and then put systems in place to ensure they don't happen again.
