I work for a large organisation. In my department there are about 12 people and a few managers. In fact the ratio of supervisor/ manager to staff is 1:3. Our HR constantly tells us that we have to book in our holidays for the year, or we will lose out.
So I did that. I booked time off, and it wasn't approved. So I picked other dates, and it wasn't approved again. The reason being, that there are not enough staff. They have picked our company clean to the bare bones of its arse, and as a result, many of us are burnt out, overworked and stressed out.
I know what would make me feel better, a week in the sun!
No one else has this time off, so it is not as if other people have booked and I am late to the table. Not one other person has these days off, yet they are still short staffed and I cannot have them off. I've checked other dates and they were rejected too. It is not a busy time of year, not piggybacked on to a popular time, it is actually a non event time in the calendar.
So, my question is, can an employer keep rejecting my holiday based on being short staffed, when this is their own doing for being penny pinching. Are there any laws covering this so I can go back with my facts right.
