NHS sick leave entitlement.

I have worked for the NHS for over 30 years so am entitled to 6 months full pay and 6 months half pay. Last September I had a serious heart event and so had 4 months off and am now back at work. I am thinking about my options including going off sick again due to the behaviour of colleagues I am finding unbearable. Obviously I can have 2 months more at full pay but wondered is that it, is it 6 months for your whole career or once your back does the clock start again.
all advice gratefully received

Isn't the question do you need the time off to recover?

Or are you just working out the maximum you can take, whether you need it or not?

Speak to HR my understanding is you can 6 months consecutive full pay and after that it moves to half pay for another 6 months. I thought if you returned to work, as long as your work for a certain period of time (6 months- a year) you can take another period of 6 months full pay sick leave. I work in a team with someone with a chronic condition who basically works enough to take 6 months full pay at a time.

If it is due to others behaviour could you look at moving posts when you return back to work

I thought it was in a 12-month rolling period?

The clock resets after 12months.
Check your trusts policy but it's not 6 months over your entire career.
Some people take 6months off return for 6 months then take it off again- they almost have a career out of strategic sickness... others have long term illnesses which require this.
I have managed people who have used it in both ways.
There will be a capability process if you hit certain triggers but that would be looking at the best way to keep you in work.

I dont think going off sick due to others behaviour is the right thing to do.

Do you want to talk more about out what's going on?

It's a rolling 12 months in NHS so it will depend how much full pay you've already used up since last February.
Look at your Trusts policy for sickness absence though to check if you're going to trigger any monitoring by being off again for another period of sickness within a short period of time.
