Hi all, I’ve been offered a role as a vaccination nurse. I’m just wondering does anyone have any tips? I’m an RMN so predominantly my experience is doing glute depots, I’ve not really done as many deltoid so feeling a bit nervous about it. Would you say this is easier? I’ve also been in a non clinical role for a while so a bit worried about getting back to it. Does anyone have any wisdom to share? Thank you!

probably a rather plum job. expect m-f and no night shifts.
once you learn the landmarking it's not at all difficult, there will be lots to learn though about the products used, alternatives, timing and documentation.
i'm in canada and yes it's an rn job here as well. some even specialize in travel vs newborn vs adult.
here at least those that do this role are very relaxed happy nurses well supported even if the pay is less (no shift differential for example).
look at the amount of people that gave covid vaccines, the needles are so tiny now.
that being said my last attempt at getting my hepatitis shots up to date before i retired the gal irritated the nerve and my arm was a limp and in agony for a few days (i found fault in her technique, but then techniques change over the decades).
good luck

I did Covid vaccines during the pandemic. Hadn’t given a deltoid injection for so many years I can’t even remember. It’s so easy and you’ll soon be ok with it.
