I have an interview on Wed for a job which I would really like to get. I have to do a presentation on "the challenges that face a diabetes specialist nurse", I have some ideas but not sure where to start. There is no indication of how long it is to be , if there is powerpoint or any other info! Help, please!

I would call them and ask! My friend had an interview recently and was going to do a powerpoint presentation and the computer wouldn't recognise her data stick - luckily she had printed it out as handouts too! Something to bear in mind. She got the job! Good luck btw.

I have an interview in two weeks for a similar thing. I'd do powerpoint and print out handouts as Schneebly said and maybe put it in a cd and a data stick - in case of technology problems.

Google your presentation title you'll be surprised what might come up. Also look at any NSF's or policies which might relate.

I would say aim for 10 minutes and don't talk through the slide word for word. Have bullet points or phrases prompt you and then talk about your point/idea - that way you look like you know what you're talking about .

Hope that helps - you probably know all that already!

We had an interviewee at school last week, and her PPT used the latest version and our school's was the 2003 one. This meant it didn't work. Fortunately, it wasn't crucial to the lesson (and she got the job!).

My advice with Powerpoint is to save it on your latest version, but also an earlier version.

thanks for the advice - I think I will email the Lead DSN as the letter about the interview came from HR 40 miles away-the person I spoke to was clueless!

Anyone with more advice?

I always follow the following format:

Say what you are going to say,
Say it
Say it again

Obviously it won't be as basic as that, but you will need to follow some sort of structure to help you audience along. Also, try not to be too rehearsed and tense, try and relax if you can.

llareggubs advice is good, and 10 minutes is usually about right for an interview presentation.

How about a case study if you already deal with diabetic patients ? A quick couple of slides on the role of the specialist nurse, one on the challenges, and then the case study over 4 slides (case history, presenting problems, challenges, results sort of thing), slide on techniques, then wrap up. No more than 10 slides, and get some pictures in the brighten it up.

Remember to look at everyone, stand still and don't wave your hands around - only use to emphasise your point. Most of all, show your passion for the subject
