NHS Scotland - worried about employment

Having a complete panic tonight! Received a generic email tonight through NHS communications that basically significant changes were going to be made to the way we work due to financial crisis. Which isn't a shock but what is alarming me is what it might mean for my role. I am non clinical and working for public health, 20hr is with the smoking cessation service with children and young people mainly around prevention and the other 12hrs I currently deliver on the child healthy weight work. Important work but in the current climate, could be deemed as non essential.

I have worked with NHS for 6 years and just worrying that I'm going to lose my job. I am permanent but maybe at this time ot doesn't matter when it could be a cost saving exercise to remove a service that isn't seen to be life saving?

Anyone else in similar worrying boat or shed some light if I'm worrying and will have a job!!

The NHS are known for offering secondment or the like.
I can’t comment too much, cos I’ll be honest that I don’t know much about it. But bumping so that someone else may see the thread.

Id try not to sweat it at the moment OP. Easy for me to say, I know but see what they actually say. Can you talk to a line manager?

Thank you 😊. My line manager is off until Thursday and we have an all day event so she is unlikely to have seen the email then herself! I think I will try speak to HR tomorrow and perhaps my bosses boss who I know, just for some reassurance hopefully!

The NHS is a total mess.
They claim they need to make cutbacks due to ‘ financial crisis’ but really huge amounts of public money are spent on quangos, using outside private agencies for things like catering, building rents and maintenance, bed and mattress rental,IT etc. Non of that is run by the nhs anymore.
Very top heavy at management level too.

I don’t think they can just sack you though,op.
Maybe give you a sideways redeployment is more likely, I’d think.

Absolutely!! Can see myself where money is wasted, especially at the top!!
I do think that redeployment could be an option for a lot of us if it comes to it. Which obviously isn't ideal but if it means still having a job, I'll take it!

I think I meant redeployment and not secondment. Sorry.
