Hi everyone!
I’m in a job that is really just a job to me but the whole reason I took the job is to help out grandparents.
8 months in, beginning to feel settled but this situ at work has thrown me a bit and I’ve got that hundred day cough post covid & a lot going on with the family so not feeling very clear in my mind to think straight.
Got a carrot dangled recently that sounded like a promotion but now getting a weird vibe about what the bigger picture aim is.
Manager delighted in telling me supervisor ’no longer with us’ upon New Year return to work. I was asked if I’d think about taking on more responsibility of course with increased pay- no actual numbers mentioned.
I told my manager that my current position is fine as it offers a lot of flexibility but if some flexibility was still available plus an increase in pay then I’d happily go for it.
Supervisor position was implied considering her opening sentence was ‘so you will have probably noticed that X is no longer with us… I hadn’t at that point! 😂
However, the following week was quoted a different title and they are cracking on with advertising.
Still no official number offered and was asked today to calculate my own numbers on what I make on a busy week, manager then took paper…
Official chat regarding new position postponed due to daily workload so any questions for when it happens would be helpful.
Feels like an elephant in the room in the office. I’d be totally fine if they said that because I wasn’t up for being there long term and I needed flexible working that they can’t/don’t want to offer me the position but they haven’t said that.
Do I just ask her outright during/ before the meeting?
They keep their cards close to their chest and do a lot of ‘managing out’ at this place. Nothing would surprise me. Feels like I’m being played with and don’t appreciate it.
It’s a small area & everyone knows everyone outside of work. I totally get the idea of putting the business first even if it means uncomfortable outcomes for some individuals; toughest part of the job being in a rural setting.
Would value any business perspective if anyone can enlighten.
