New job, toxic workplace

I recently started a new job, currently one month into a 3 month probation. From day 1 I sensed something off about the company culture but couldn't quite tell what. I learned something today (too long to go into detail) that explains a lot about why things generally feel quite toxic and it is manipulative behaviour originating from HR that fundamentally does not sit well with me at all, and will potentially drag me into an extremely challenging situation very soon, that I will struggle with morally. I'm seriously considering looking for a new role quickly within my probation so I don't have to give notice etc.

What do I say to potential new employers when they ask why I am leaving somewhere so soon?

"Unfortunately the organisation didn't align with my values" or something?

How does that look?

I don't know what you should say, but you would do well to ship out. Staying somewhere toxic is a no no. It has repercussions for your health. If your CV is littered with gaps, it would be a problem. But if you have been in employment somewhere before for a good period of time, I see no shame in saying that the job was not for you.

Thanks - I agree, I think I need to get out.

It's the first time I've done this, no haps, previous employment was 6 years with 2 promotions and before that 7 years with 3 promotions. I think that would go in my favour?

With your good history of employment you'd have no problem getting another job.
You should be honest too and either tell them why or roughly why, for example toxic workplace and being asked to do something unethical. Employers would understand and appreciate your honesty (speaking from personal experience).

Leave and be honest with potential new employers about why, but in a smart way - as you’ve suggested, something vague like not aligning with your values is good. I wouldn’t use the word toxic; it’s misused a lot and it might backfire and make you look difficult. Or, say the job wasn’t what you expected - e.g. there were elements which were not included in the JD. It’s pushing the truth a little maybe, but it is a good, neutral way to address a short stint on a CV.

Thanks all, spoke to a recruiter today who's going to help me find a temp role so I can spend time looking for the right role. Honestly appalling behaviour 😡
