Why do I need a blood test just to go temping?

It's for a float medical secretary (office based in various hospitals) and I have to show them proof of childhood innoculations, which I have done, but now they're saying I need to have a blood test, but it's quite far where I have to go for it. I've never had to have a blood test for any job, even having worked in medical offices these past 25 years. I didn't have to have a blood test in the hospital I work in now.
Is it me or is it odd needing a blood test just to type in offices?
When I queried this with Occ. Health there, they said ,"We have reviewed your records and advise you attend for blood tests for Mumps, Measles and Hep B!. However, as just stated above, I've already sent them proof I've had these! Is it really worth my while?

They’ve messed up by the sounds of it. It sounds like they’ve missed what you have been vaccinated for and also got you down as clinical when you aren’t.

i agree. The bloods are for clinical staff only. However my trust is offering the mmr if you haven’t had it and the trust I’m just in the process of joining gave me the mmr as I’m not immune to measles from a blood test. I work in theatres though so it’s exposure prone procedures (ie extra tests and vaccines needed).

Ps it’s because there are high cases of measles at the moment.

Check with your occupational health as to their current policy….all clinical staff should have a blood test when they start work and it might be that they have decided to extend this to all staff because of the measles epidemic(or it may be a mistake)…..having worked somewhere where a staff member was attending work with mumps i do think this is a good idea particular if you are going to be a float. Edited due to spelling!

Oh I suspect it might be about hep B rather than other 2 …which is def clinical staff only !!!

Or it might be the timing was not standard. Dd had two mmr in Europe earlier than it was, then, timetabled in UK. Her blood test (OH check for work experience) picked up she had no immunity to rubella, so worthwhile and she had a booster. Not sure why you cannot have it done more locally though.

Nhs? Mum had this the other despite working for them for over 20 years (non clinical) she ended up having to have her childhood vaccines (again)

I had to have the tests in 2012 for bank admin at a London hospital. Medical records staff go all over the place, including onto wards, secretaries have to go onto wards and into clinics ( I used to go into Special Care every week as part of my job), admin of any kind could be in contact with vulnerable people at any time.

The only reason I had tests rather than straight to vaccination was because I was on methotrexate at the time.
