NHS worker looking at records?

Hi, my friend has looked up their own name while at work at the nhs on TrakCare live and morse while they were training thinking it would just let tnem
see the systems, I’ve told them they should speak to the manager and they aren’t sure if that will be worse, they are new in the job and the nhs and have not had any training on TURAS or even been told that they werent allowed to do this. Wondering how long will it take for IT to flag this up as it has been 2 weeks now and trying to put their mind at ease? Thanks.

Did they access personal information

Loola83 · 29/01/2024 22:42

Just their own information? They viewed their own things on morse and trak as far as I know

Did they not do the corporate induction in their first week?
The dangers of doing this would have been well hammered home to them.

Were they hoping to find out something in particular from their own records? Because you can actually just apply to see your own notes which is far easier than losing your job

How did they log in to the system and see real patient information if it was just training.

SylvanianFrenemies · 29/01/2024 23:01

It won't get flagged up unless checks are being made. There isnt an it process which automatically creates an alert if someone searches for their own records.
They shouldn't have been given access to patient records with data handling training.

looking up her own records is very different to looking up someone else’s records.

Kayemm · 29/01/2024 23:03

Ooooh. This is my actual job!

Is this against yourTrust Policy? Some have it against , some don't. It isn't illegal to access your own information but if it's against your Trust Policy it could result in a stiff talking to or a file note.

Then it depends what auditing software you have installed on the actual system used.

We have dozens of electronic systems dependent on dept, so maternity has a different system to xray to phlebotomy etc.

Some of these have very indepth auditing software and some have none at all.

It will probably be IG rather than IT who monitor and audit.

No answer to your question but hopefully some useful information 👍

Work in a similar role .

We aren’t allowed to look up ourselves or famous people!

You have to have worked on a case - reports are viewed regularly.

There definitely are systems which alert if inappropriate access happens. I work on them every day
