To ask to be considered for a role I declined?

I'm not sure if this is acceptable or if it would be very rude, but I applied for a role about 3 months ago.

The pay scale was quite broad. In December I was offered at the lower end of the scale which would be about an 8k paycut.

At the time I couldn't accept the paycut but now it may be feasible. The reason I want to leave my current role is due to the treatment and bullying I'm receiving at my current position, this has escalated a lot recently.

The role is still being advertised, there were 3 vacancies at the time, now only 1. Can I contact them back and ask to be reconsidered again or is this very rude?

Personally I wouldn't because an £8k pay cut is massive and could affect job offers down the line in terms of pay rates.

I appreciate you want to get out of your current company but I'd be looking to take less of a hit on pay.

If it's still being advertised worth a call to them to say you would be willing to take it IF the pay is higher. They liked you enough to offer before, but just didn't offer enough. Maybe they have spend a lot of time and money on recruitment now so will up their offer.

This.

They are obviously struggling to recruit and may up their offer.

There is no harm in asking, is there?

If you phone and say you will take the job on what they originally offered, they may worry you will leave shortly after starting, as they know you really want more money, so asking if they would offer you more might actually make you look more appealing.

I suppose none of us know what they will actually think, but you may as well ask.

Thanks for the replies and advice!

There's requirements for the grade stages, I don't meet the number of years experience so there is no movement with the starting pay, they checked this when I raised a concern on it before declining. Sorry should have put that in my initial post!

The recruitment takes about 6 months so they tend to take a while to fill each position!

If you really want the job and can afford the drop in salary, I would ring them up. You don't get if you don't ask 🙂
