So brief background. I’m in a job which I have mostly enjoyed until recently. However many changes are happening, I have a (terrible) new manager and my job itself is being changed - more stuff I dislike doing and less of what I do like. Other than my daughter I have no need to stay in this town but that will change soon as she plans to move away for work I have no local friends of family.
The idea of a new job terrifies me - I suffer with anxiety and dislike certain types of change but the thought of being in this job(unless it improves) is horrible.
If things at work stay bad I’m thinking instead of looking for another job locally to move to another area I love (with cheaper property too)and then look for work once settled there. I can afford not to work for a few months.
When writing this, the decision seems like a no brainer! But I like my security, dislike the thought of learning a new job, etc.
i would be so grateful for some feedback, thoughts, experiences please 🙏
TIA 😊

Definitely do it! There will be nothing keeping you there at all.

Will you be able to find work at the new place? Are there ways you could meet new people there?

I used to temp a lot and found once I fixed on an end date, a bad job didn't bother me. I was able to switch off, knowing I'd soon be gone. If I were you I'd leave but I'd go at a time which suited me.

Where will your daughter go to work? Will you and she be able to travel to each other's homes easily from the new town?

@MILTOBE thank you for your reply. 😊
I’d have a big town nearby so hopefully finding work works t take too long! My daughter & i wouks still be able to be able to visit easily.

I'd love to know the place you're going to! I'm in a similar-ish position and really have itchy feet.

Wondering99 · 27/01/2024 18:31

@MILTOBE yes I’d wait til she was settled in a job (or uni if she goes). You’re right maybe if I have an end date in mind, tolerating the current job won’t be so bad!
I just feel so sad at the thought of this job being such a big part of my life but I know the grass isnt always greener…,

So if, say, your manager was to leave, would you be OK staying in the job? Do you have any friends at work that you would miss?

Wondering99 · 27/01/2024 18:56

@MILTOBE i guess it depends on his replacement! No one there I’d miss at all!!!

That tells you everything, then. Time for a change! So that you feel in control, perhaps start making lists - how to sell the house, typical places you could rent while you're looking to buy (which would be the easiest way to do it), where to store your things while you're renting, job opportunities in the new area, perhaps the MeetUp groups that exist there, that sort of thing. Keep a record of all that and you won't think about work and your idiot boss.

It sounds like it is time for a change.

If you move to a cheaper location you might be able to get a less stressful job too or work part-time? That would also help with lowering your anxiety.

Wondering99 · 28/01/2024 08:45

@Startingagainandagain thank you. Yes, reducing my work stress would definitely help!
