What Colour is your Parachute - all help much appreciated

So I am 35 years old and trying to find a career that is right for me after a couple of false starts (NHS management and school admin). I am following the exercises in the book What Colour is your Parachute and it asks me to get as many different opinions as possible. Basically if you look at the attached list what careers come to mind.

Thank you :)

You sound like you'd make a great legal PA.

We need someone like you in our team!

How are you with numbers/IT? There are some decent if unexciting careers in insurance admin that you'd be good at.

Project Manager
Customer Success Manager

doesn’t fit all of your points, but maybe a speech and language therapist?

Hopingforno2in2024 · 29/01/2024 13:19

Thank you @folkjournals, lots of reading for me to do :)

That’s very kind of you @SingingSands, several people have mentioned legal work so I will definitely be looking into that.

Numbers/IT have never been my focus @CrimsonPermanentAssurance but I would happily do some training to build my skills up.

Interestingly @VincentVanGoth i am signed up for a free Introduction to Speech and Language Therapy course in April. It is just one day a week for 12 weeks and I hope it will enable me to make a decision either way. I don’t want to do another degree if it isn’t the right choice for me!

I'm a PM, and a lot of this matches, but forget the whole care for line. Of prepare for your acts of service to mostly be unappreciated (depending on sector and company of course)

Hopingforno2in2024 · 29/01/2024 13:26

This is absolutely my thinking @themusingsofaninsomniac, I need to keep that side of me for my family, friends and the voluntary work I do.

Ooh that sounds interesting. Like a try before you buy!

another idea, if you’re not squeamish that is, would be an operating department practitioner (ODP)

fits the majority of your criteria, and you can do a 2 year diploma rather than a degree (either option is available though if it’s preferable)

Hopingforno2in2024 · 29/01/2024 13:47

Yes I figured that I had nothing to lose by trying it as it is a free course @VincentVanGoth

Unfortunately I am very squeamish and when I watched an operation when working in the NHS I passed out and the surgeon had to get me taken down to A&E as I managed to hit my head on the way day 😂

Project manager, stakeholder engagement manager,

You sound like you'd make a good office manager in a structured workplace like an accountants. Onboarding clients and making sure all compliance deadlines are met by the accountants.
