Standards in the NHS now. I run a busy clinic all day, I've been working here for well over 43 years and quite honestly the behaviour of people at work is really alarming. I won't go into too much detail as its outing but for example yesterday my fully qualified assistant was supposed to be helping me. In the middle of clinic she gets a long piece of couch roll out, puts it on the clinic worktop and starts peeling oranges and chopping food and eating it, buttering crackers, getting ham out. In effect having a bloody buffet as I'm seeing patients in the same room.
I said very sharply get that food out of here - what are you doing? We have a fully equipped kitchen two doors up. If you are hungry excuse yourself for 5 minutes and go and eat something IN THE KITCHEN.
Something like this happens every single day.
Extreme over familiarity with patients, advising them to sue the hospital for example - we don't get involved at our level. Shrieking with laughter, being very inapproriate.
I feel like I'm in a mad house.
The worst offenders don't get reprimanded or sacked. I can't wait to retire quite honestly.

how long until you retire Op?

Well everyone is encouraged to “bring their whole selves to work” now. I agree that some people should leave a bit of themselves at home!

Agree that it’s a natural consequence of bringing your whole self to work. Professionalism has gone out the window. Thank god I’m retiring soon too. I

People don’t have contextual behaviours now. When I was a kid, certain things ‘weren’t the done thing’.
Varied from petticoat showing (or worse, no petticoat at all), wearing strappy sandals with a coat, eating on the street, alcohol or pickled onions before noon…

Standards have slipped! To be fair, the above was classed as behaviour that would see you ‘dead in a ditch’ which is pretty unreasonable.

Manners used to be about making little impact on people around us- not being noisy, messy, etc. Now people seem to feel free to do what they like, and other people can leave the space if they don’t like it.

Neither do I want to see anyones whole self. I want to see their professional self and nothing else. God knows what the patient thought seeing this buffet spread out.
