Is this a bad deal?

The situation is I've been a contractor my entire working life and am now trying to side step into a vaguely related career and get into employment. Because of that I'm willing to take a pay cut as I start but have never looked at job ads before so I'm not sure whats a "good deal" or not.
Job (office based):
28K
75% PHI
9AM to 5.30PM
3 days WFH
28 days holiday
5% pension contribution

This is about 12K less pa than I make as a contractor :-/ As I said I'm willing to take a cut but not if the package overall is weak. Obviously will try and see how it compares to similar jobs out there but just wanted to get some group feedback.

What's the job? Basic administrative work, probably very well paid. Project Manager, not well paid. Training role or expected to hit the ground running?

What are the education or qualification requirements for the role? Is it a job easily done by a wide sector or is it niche and specialist? Are you being

Small start up business or massive multinational?

I don't know what PHI is.

Leave and pension sound good. Sick pay? Does AL increase each year?

Is there scope for progression?

It's only a good deal if it aligns with your skills/experience and aims.

Are you sidestepping for security? Continuity?

Is 28k the average salary for your role?

Depends what the job is but benefits standard apart from PHI cover I think that's not very common nowadays

Megifer · 18/01/2024 09:28

Infact I'd take the health care out of it tbh as only getting 75% cover ties you in to paying the other 25% (I assume, never come across part cover before) so if you need expensive treatment you could end up paying thousands yourself. Not a benefit at all imo.

Whataretheodds · 18/01/2024 09:29

When you consider what you're making now are you factoring in what you need to keep aside for sick pay, pension, and redundancy?

Employmentn00b · 18/01/2024 12:36

Thank you for your replies guys, there is scope for progression, and no, it's true I hadn't taken pension/sick/holiday pay into account when looking at my current earnings. It's a junior governance role and I already have some transferable skills, this job provides training.

Sounds like a decent enough move to me then.
Good luck OP, hope it goes well :D
