Probation period with more than two years' continuous employment

I'm six weeks into a six month probation period. However, I've worked for this employer for the last ten years (my continuous service dates from January 2014).

Can they dismiss me during the probationary period, or do I still have some protection because of my previous service? Normal practice here is that they can give you one weeks' notice during probation (and you can do the same for them).

I suppose what I'm asking is, does service in post supersede service overall to the employer?

Were you "employed" from 2014 (with a contract)? If so, yes, you are protected as you have over 2 years' service with your employer, notwithstanding this new role. If you were self employed, could be more tricky.

As you have been continuously employed since 2014, you are protected against unfair dismissal and your employer must give you one week's notice for each full year you have been employed. The fact they have put you on probation for a new role does not change this.

Thank you, both.
