Hey, good luck! Are you already in the nhs?

i would

  • look up the trust values and consider how they apply to the job/you/examples where you have demonstrated these
  • make sure you’re familiar with gdpr and confidentiality plus examples of adhering to this
  • make sure you have examples of any of the skills listed in the person spec
  • examples of a time you’ve dealt with difficult conversations- with staff, patients, clinicians and how it was resolved
  • examples and detail around prioritising workload, meeting a deadline, working as a team, leading a team, time management and escalating concerns to managers etc.
  • consider what will be a challenge in the role/for you in the role.

dont forget to utilise the STAR method for structuring your answers.

and you can call the interview lead/panel to discuss the role/team/

Thank you for that, brilliant help.

I do work for the nhs. I think it’s the band 4/supervisor aspects I want to focus on, I want to be well prepared for those questions.

thank you :) great focus points.

I'm a band 5 support manager and one of my questions was think of a situation when you had to manage a team during a period of change. What did you do to support them?

This might not come up but try and have an example of when you've had to chivvy along colleagues that are grumbling about doing something new / changing processes. Being encouraging and listening to their concerns etc.

NHS interviews love situations! Have a good few examples under your belt. Examples of conflict etc either from a patient or member of staff.

Good luck!

thank you so much - will definitely think of examples along those lines!

Congratulations!

Congratulations! I’m rather surprised that band 4 is a supervisor/manager role. That’s not really in line with agenda for change. See what the role entails in reality and consider asking to be rebanded in 6 months. Not trying to be negative but some trusts take the piss so make sure you’re not being under paid. Good luck op!

AXCS · 02/02/2024 06:20

Thank you - I totally get where you’re coming from, I know elsewhere it would be a higher band.

our band 4s are in a supervisory role, supervising the lower bands, quite common

AquaSloth · 15/04/2024 22:26

I am band 4 supervising in my office, I really think it should be upbanded though I agree with @TeenLifeMum

TeenLifeMum · 15/04/2024 23:01

@AquaSloth and @Willmafrockfit roughly where in the country are you? I’m south west and I am genuine shocked band 4s are managing people. I’ve know it at band 5 but I thought that was stretching it. I’m wondering if it’s regional.

AquaSloth · 15/04/2024 23:05

@TeenLifeMum I am south west also!

TeenLifeMum · 15/04/2024 23:09

@AquaSloth are you UHBW? I had a colleague who we poached from there because she was on band 3 for a job that’s normally a band 5.
