Worried about asking GP for sick note

I have been suffering with anxiety really bad recently, I have some personal issues with my ex, he has been arrested for violence/coercive control towards me. I've had migraines, anxiety attacks, struggling to sleep etc. I really need some time off work as I am just a teary, panicky mess most days. My manager is very old school and doesn't believe in anxiety so I'm worried about having to extend my sick leave and also worried the GP will refuse. Do I ask the GP for a note? Or do they decide without me asking? Will it give details? I really do not want work knowing about these personal issues. Thank you in advance x

Just ask for a sick note, it saves them trying to read between the lines and they can then focus on how to help.
ime they are happy to do it but do like to check you have support, take any medication you should, like you to consider counselling, they might do it initially for a week or two at a time so you check in with them before getting it extended etc etc.
I’m sorry things are so tough for you right now, I hope you have some support and things improve for you soon Flowers

Just tell your GP exactly this. She will have to put a diagnosis on ithe note such as stress, anxiety etc but no other details.
Please also take GP advice on any treatment to help you such as medication or talking therapy.

I hope you feel better soon

Your gp will give you a sick note so don't worry about that. They should also discuss with you what to put on your sicknote. It has to be truthful but you can share your worries about this and look at a middle ground that reflects the reason but you feel happy with. When I had surgery for ovarian cancer I wasn't ready to see it written down so my 1st sicknote said gynaecology procedure.
