When you apply for roles directly via Linkedin and there is a 'Hiring Manager' profile underneath, is it a good idea to connect with them too, expressing your interest directly once you've applied?

Or do they find it annoying?

Do what you think is best. It's you they are looking at!

My last but one job was through an agency and they said it was a good thing to check out the profile of the people that would be interviewing you. It shows interest and you can see their history and it may start conversations- maybe you worked at the same place or same uni. However, I was really uncomfortable with it. It felt like stalking and there is a fine line between interest and nosyness - why risk crossing their boundary before you've even met?! I'll never do it again. I did get the job for what it's worth but it was an awful place.

I'm hiring manager for my team.

I would say it definitely helps - but won't overcome bad interview performance / lack of previous experience.

It might depend on sector - my team support vulnerable people, so a friendly, warm email can put a candidate in a positive light before they even get to interview stage.

If it's anything to do with sales then yes!

Thank you! It's the marketing/media sector which I guess is pretty relaxed and obviously based on good communication.

Sometimes it's an internal People/HR person and sometimes it's a recruitment agency.

Agree there's a fine line for sure!

Seems like a good idea then to me! Break a leg!
