Difficult work environment.....

Hi All
Have been in my current role for 16 months and up until recently enjoyed it. Since I started there has been some underlying niggles in terms of the more technical side of the team and their understanding of my role and appreciating what I have to bring to the team. Basically I feel that the manager of this team, does not feel that my role is needed. I have worked hard to prove myself and look past this, but towards the end of last year there were some niggles where some elements of my work were 'reviewed' by the tech manager and the director (neither I or my line manager was involved) nothing was discussed directly with me apart from the tech manager telling me about it after. A big piece of work that I did was also discussed with the tech manager, even though it is not connected to his role and again it was the tech manager that mentioned this to me. This week he also saw fit to say in a meeting which included the director that my role and a couple of other roles (non tech roles) are not working as well as the tech side. The director did push back on this and suggested that my role is actually quite vital to both the tech side and the other side of the org. Aibu to be annoyed at what seems to be the constant involvement of the tech manager, in things that do not sit in his remit? The tech manager is very much the golden boy, and can do no wrong but is also known wider in the org for backstabbing and I just don't now how to deal with this as we generally get on ok. My OH thinks that the TM feels threatened by me, because I am not technical but have brought ideas to the table, and will also challenge things that don't sit right for the team. But I do find it quite draining as I feel so undervalued by all of this, some days I just don't know what I am walking into.

Any words of wisdom fellow mumsnetters?

Part of me feels that I should start to look for a new role. As I don't really feel that I have much scope to grow. I also feel that I need more of a role and purpose, but equally am not sure if I am the problem, perhaps the role isn't a right fit for me? I am a project officer, but in reality feel that I am undertaking more of a operations type role, because of the nature of what comes through the door and also the team set up, which has staff employed on JD's where the role doesn't exist.

I don't think it would be a bad idea to update your LinkedIn and see what's available. Bottom line is: you don't feel valued, so go somewhere they will value you.

Have you spoken to your Line Manager about this? What do they say. Another manager, to whom you don't report, commenting on your work, is inappropriate.

So you're project management and the TM is more delivery focused? If it's the case, I would point out to the TM that they aren't seeing the bigger picture and let them know what your remit is in a way that shows the skills they lack and vital to making things happen. IME it's not unusual for those in tech roles not to appreciate the work project managers do but that's because of their narrow remit. It makes them look stupid, not you. Rise above it but also raise with your line manager.

Ignore my advice. The other posts are much better.
