Way into nursing help

As a family with no NHS experience, DD wants to become a nurse. She’s doing her GCSES this year. She was intending to do a health and social care BTEC then uni but is now saying she fancies doing an apprenticeship instead of sixth form. It appears there is a route to do a healthcare assistant apprenticeship then work up and do nursing degree whilst working but can anyone tell me if this is a common route and she’d be likely to get the opportunity to train and get her nursing degree in this way? Or is sixth form and uni still what 99% of people do? Thank you
