So I had an interview recently and was told I would hear by this Friday and so my phone is nearby to check for emails or phone calls

If successful would they likely phone or email? In ppls experiences on here

Thanks

I always phone candidates whether successful or unsuccessful
it’s more personal and kinder

MsMcGonagall · 04/01/2024 09:45

Usually, the successful candidate will be phoned. Its good to know that that message is received and there may be things to discuss (pay, conditions, references, whether you want to accept the job after all). Usually they will then put it in an email.

Unsuccessful candidates usually get an email, but not always, I've also been phoned as an unsuccessful candidate as they wanted to explain and I guess sufficient relationship had been built.

I’ve always been called if successful, always had an email if unsuccessful. If you haven’t heard by late tomorrow, it’s more likely you’ve been unsuccessful. My fiancé, however, heard that he’d got the job days after he was told he would hear due to some HR delay.

Successful phone, rejection by email. People are cowards and no one likes giving bad news.

JoyOdell123 · 04/01/2024 10:01

Phone for good news

PamelaParis · 04/01/2024 10:03

Could be either. Where I work, job offers are sent by email as it has to go out formally via HR.

MsMcGonagall · 04/01/2024 10:05

Good luck OP, hope you get the job. If they gave themselves til Friday it will probably take until Friday. There will likely be internal discussions before they can agree and decide.

I should add that I sent a nice email on Tuesday expressing my interest etc so I wasn't pushy but made it clear in a nice way that i was keen but also that I appreciate they have others to see also

She replied with a lovely email basically saying very busy etc but will get back to me soon and "we look forward to speaking to u soon" was at the end

Is the end sentence a good sign or just politeness

Just politeness. There's nothing more you can or should do.

They have to be as impartial as possible. Sending any more messages won't help your case.

bringon2024 · 04/01/2024 13:45

I sent ONE message!!!!

I didn't get the job. They emailed to say they were impressed with my skills and knowledge but someone else was better suited

Sorry to hear, OP. It always feels crappy. They may keep you in mind for future roles. A friend of mine didn’t get the job, then a few weeks later a similar role came up and they contacted her.
For now, onwards and upwards. Pamper yourself a bit today and start the lookout again next week.

bringon2024 · 05/01/2024 11:54

Thanks Altho not flush so no pampering as w funds
