So I got the job back in November but it's taking awhile to actually get started with DBS checks and all the other important things. Last night I couldn't sleep I never do when the kids have been on a break and they go back, my mind is constantly over thinking so I got next to nothing, this morning I dropped the little one off at his school and I wasn't sure if they got my DBS so I brought mine (they did) so I asked when I'd be starting and they only said today 😅 so chucked in the deep end, which is fine however, no sleep, exhausted mind wasn't working.

I'm shadowing a lovely lunchtime lady but a part of me thinks I'm being a little lost sheep and I'm being totally useless, im training obviously but that's just my thoughts, it's going to take a little while to get into the swing of things, any advice on how to relax and stop over thinking, I do have adhd so it's hard to not but tips would be lovely right now.

The children are lovely and have asked me questions even had some maths questions so it has been fun for the hour I'm there, I need routine and I don't have it yet, I am aware the school is quite funny with getting things done on time, I'm having to ask to get somewhere if you get me?. I'm just wanting experiences in this, how did you do?, did it take you long to learn names, routine ect (sorry long post)

I did this job some years ago. It's very very normal to feel nervous about it. I think you'll be great. You're keen to remember the children's names and doing things correctly. It's a very full on but fun job. You'll get to know the children. I loved it.

Congratulations! You’ll be hard pushed to remember every name unless you only deal with a specific year, so don’t worry too much. I like to remember as many as I can as it’s more personal and easier to manage the children by name, but it’s ongoing with new children throughout the year and every September. We change things around every year so it tends to feel like a new job each year. I’m a note taker, anything you think you might forget, write it down. A watch is also a must in our school as we continually need to be in certain places at certain times. Ask all the questions and don’t be afraid to ask again if you forget or aren’t sure. It’s always better to check until you find your feet and even when you have, sometimes a colleague confirming they would handle something the same way, helps you feel confident in what you’re doing. It’s a hectic job for the small amount of time but very fun too. I hope you enjoy it once you’re settled

You will be fine! So hard to remember all the times so until you do, if u ever can, just hello my lovely, hun, sweetie. The smile and acknowledgement is lovely 😍

Fake it til you make it! That's what we all do til we're confident and then still do. X

@Happiestathome the watch is a brilliant idea atm I'm not in charge of "the whistle" and lining children up for their dinner so watching the time isn't an issue for me yet but I'll keep it in mind, we do it with reception and year 2 first then year 1 (year one are on the yard) however im in charge with an individual class to go the loo and wash hands, then after break an individual child will come to the quite room too read to us which I love because it's calm after an hour of children letting off steam. Thank you for the advice, I learnt more names today so hopefully they stick.

@Jeannie88 thats a great idea I do tend to say "lovely" "me dear" (I'm northern) so that'll help if I can't remember, even the more experienced lunch ladies forget so I found out today ha. There's just so many of them it's slightly overwhelming but I'll get there.
