What jobs pay around £30k for 30 hours?!

My little lady starts school next September. I want a PT job ideally school hours so I can do drop offs and pick ups most of the time. I need to earn 30k and we live in zone 6 of London so assume this is not completely wild! Ideally it would be local or majority remote so I don’t have to waste time on commuting.

any ideas of roles that are around 30 hours a week that will pay 30k?? I am experienced in Brand Management/Marketing which has plenty of transferable skills - commercial, project management, administrative. I currently earn more than double this working full time and reasonably senior. Unfortunately the industry does not really do proper part time roles, so I am expecting a career change.

if you earn around 30k for school hours, what do you do?!

I earned that as an entry level accountant. Short days are an option in some roles and due to reporting days are often better than part time like 3 or 4 days per week. I’m not sure you will fit in 30 hours in the school day without before or after school care? Schools have to be open 32.5 hours and that’s assuming no travel from home to school. Unless it’s a private school in which case it may be fine. I’m now in project management and I think you could earn similar if you have experience and/or a qualification. It is good for remote roles, although most need you to be on site at least a day a week or equivalent.

I'm a social media manager and earn more than that for 3 days a week. 30 years experience though. What are your qualifications? Won't they have you back part-time?

With your experience I’d look at comms officer / manager roles - civil service, public sector or charity sector all usually decent for flexibility and that salary ought to be achievable.

I know loads of marketing and brand management people who work part time - more in house than agency though. Agree with others that charity and public sector are worth looking at as well as corporate roles.

I earned 45k for 25 hours about 5 years ago as a solicitor.

30k is quite low for 30 hours, so you should easily be able to find something good

If you have a local university look at admin roles. Our senior admin/junior management grades are roughly that level with good holiday, flexibility and hybrid working.

Thanks! Yes 30 hours is a stretch - we are lucky we have grandparents who can help some of the time, I just don’t want it to be every day! I’ve no official qualification in Project Management, but I have run timelines across innovation projects, campaigns etc. I lead every project I work on.

I am in house FMCG. It seems really rare! The most my company, and from what I can see others too, will do is let you go to 4 days a week, at a level lower than I am now. Seniority/money doesn’t bother me, but these roles are usually 5 days worth of work so I’d end up doing longer days, which doesn’t help with school run etc!

My only qualification is my degree but I have been in brand management for 10 years now. I will check out public sector/education!
You do seem to get a lot of social managers opps for part time work but I have zero experience on the back end/tech side. A decent amount in terms of strategy from what has been proposed to me/planned by my agency. Maybe I should retrain!! Any reccos on qualifications @Doggymummar

And @JassyRadlett what companies do these people work for?!

thank you!

@MamaW05 have you approached your workplace for part time hours yet? Or assuming it won’t be possible? It’s only either slightly shorter days or a full day off a week? You might be surprised.

I do 30h across the week to fit in round school. This was negotiated with one employer even though every job they ever advertised was full time.. and I’ve managed to roll it forward to 2 x subsequent companies where I’ve applied for full time roles. Also an industry that people generally think isn’t too flexible as an awful lot of cheaper, younger full time people desperate for jobs. Experience counts for a lot, and if you’re good at your job you would probably also be pretty good at reducing by just 7.5h across the week.
