Maternity leave entitlement

My employer's maternity policy states they offer enhanced maternity payments for employers who have completed one year's continuous employment and just wondering when you would assume one year is counted to - when you become pregnant, when you inform work or when you go on maternity?

Obviously I know I should ask hr but I work in a small place and would rather not discuss it just yet.

Thanks

It's usually one year by baby's birth but sometimes it can be that you need to be in post for a year before becoming pregnant. It will depend on the wording of the policy.

It won't be related to when you tell them you are pregnant or when you start Nat leave.

Agree it's usually a year before your EWC (expected week of confinement). Unlikely to be when you got pregnant but I can see that's a possibility.

It is honestly impossible to tell you the answer to that and it should be stated explicitly in their policy. If not then just ask HR! “12 months of continuous employment” for maternity pay purposes for me means 12 months continuous employment up to the 11th week before the estimated due date. The “week” runs Sunday to Saturday so it could really come down to the specific day of the week estimated on your dating scan.

Strangers on the internet cannot just guess your employers policy and relying on them to do so could be a very expensive mistake.

Your options:

  1. Ask HR, or if you don’t want to do that then either
  2. Wait until a full year has passed before you TTC or
  3. Get pregnant and hope for the best - but I am guessing you can’t afford this risk or you wouldn’t be so worried about asking HR to do their job.

Thanks for your answers, obviously wouldn't just be relying on this but wanted to see what others thought. There's no other wording in the policy. I only don't want to talk to hr as it's a small place and wouldn't want it to affect anything or people talk about me ttc. Thanks again.
