Hey,

I’ve just started a new job and don’t know if I’m being over sensitive so would appreciate some advice!

I started at the same time as another team member although they had transferred from another department within the company.

I had an idea about how to implementing a new process for research and asked my colleague if there was a resource within the company which could deliver what I was trying to achieve. He then identified what I needed but went off and did further work on it without involving me, took it to our boss and hasn’t credited my input.

Do I raise this with my boss or let sleeping dogs lie? There’s going to be a meeting to discuss the new process and I’d really like to be part of it to see the idea through. I don’t want to stir things up when I haven’t been there long but also don’t want to be a walkover.

Any ideas on how to navigate this would be appreciated!

How about "thanks colleague for that work on our idea, are we working on this together?"
Reply comes along the lines that he's conveniently forgotten it was your idea.
You: "I appreciate the work you've done on this but can you hand it back to me now. Will you let boss know or shall I?"

I wouldn’t raise it this time, but ask to be involved and make sure any further contributions from you are either minuted or in emails.

Learn for next time that this person will claim your ideas, sadly there are people like this.
