I've just retired after 38 years as a med sec and was thinking of joining Dict8. I'll give it a miss I reckon. 🤔

Hi there
Just logged on here after a few years off to see if there were any other Dict8 posts on here. I've worked for Dict8 since 2011, both while working in the NHS and now I've retired, and I can honestly say they're a good company to work for. They pay promptly (especially now they do bank transfer instead of cheques), have high standards, give thanks for good work, feedback for poor work and send you a present at Xmas (usually a posh notebook). You're able to pick and choose which work you want to do and reject a dictation, even if you've started it, by clicking 'cancel'. The only negative for me is that the pay hasn't kept up with the times! When I started it was 8p per line which equated to around £10 per hour - sometimes more, sometimes a bit less (when I averaged it out over a week), and it's still 8p per line! This now averages out to £6-£7 per hour which is poor especially when 20% tax also has to be paid. I'll probably stay with them as other companies are no better, and sometimes worse payers, and it helps with the fuel bill😀

Hi
I found the letters a bit sparse a while back so requested Plastics which they gave me. They then asked if I'd also take Emergency Medicine so I now usually have 100-200 letters available through 8 specialities. No questions about my experience in any of these, only had that when I put in my original application. Give it a go (if you haven't already!)😀

Hi dobboflex: What do you mean you requested Plastics. Is this a specialty in Plastic Surgery or am I being stupid? lol

I would have thought the template for a gp letter would automatically be pulled through. I find it tricky to get started. There is nowhere to justify my work.

dobboflex · 30/04/2024 07:42

No auto templates on Dict8, just use the basic format they send you - Date: Dear Dr; RE: DOB: Hospital Number: unless dictated otherwise, i.e. RTX instead of H Number. Just type, and new paras as appropriate. Some docs say para after every sentence! The lines automatically justify you don’t have to do it. Some minor amendments to the grammar are tolerated. Always use lower case for generic meds. Good luck!

Yesterday I typed my longest task in ages.... 88 lines. It took me 42 minutes which equates to £10.05 an hour and we are meant to be highly valued!! I've worked for them since 2009 with not a 1p pay rise in all that time. I don't know how they get away with it.

Its not good at all. Sent an invoice for 2.64 🙄. Starting out but a bit soul destroying. There was one doctor i could not here what on earth he was saying. I had to cancel it

Hi Everyone,

I quit over a year ago, had less than 6 emails since then alerting me to a "lot of work" on the system but i'm a carer for my son now so I'm never home when this occurs and so I don't think about it any more. I used to sit at the PC most of the day hitting refresh and hoping for a letter I could understand. Got backlash for when I had typed something incorrectly and was made to look foolish (I wasn't the only one complaining at the time) and 8p a line doesn't cut the mustard.

I get more a month to ensure full quality care for my son which i couldn't do sat at a pc all day long. I've not missed it.

I was all set up to do this but ill have to find something else. Its almost volunteer work. And the NHS is hugely wealthy. Such a pity
