Not enjoying my job

Hello Mums and Dads, looking for some advice really. I have just had a review at work and apparently I am not performing well even though I have worked my socks off! The nature of my work means that there is some travel and I have not been able to go for the duration required due to childcare commitments. I have two children 2 DD and 3 DS. Work were clear when I took the job that I needed a flexible child friendly role - unfortunately my new direct line manager is making my life quite tough requesting large amounts of work within little timeframes and expecting me to work late (they do not have children). I can not do this as I have to collect my children from nursery and I have always pushed back saying the work couldn’t be done in the time allocated. This has impacted my performance. Nothing has been done to reduce my workload - in matter of fact it has increased!

I currently work 4 days a week. The thought of looking for another part time role is making me feel quite sick as I am really stretched at the moment and don’t have the mental capacity. Since maternity this is the second job I have tried and I don’t feel it’s working out. I’ve been number crunching trying to find out the lowest amount I need to earn so that I can find a teaching assistant role but we will literally be on the breadline - unless we sell our house and downsize. It’s putting a lot of stress on my relationship as I have a lot of stress and anxiety at home and my OH works very hard in his job but doesn’t earn as much as me currently.

Any advice on where I can find part time work that pays quite well but is also child friendly?! I feel like I might be chasing the part time career unicorn!! Any thoughts welcome :)

I find working for a charity very flexible, and there are a lot of remote jobs. Have a look here https://www.charityjob.co.uk/jobs?workplace=remote&radius=20

In my team there is only one man, a lot of people start after the school run and break in the afternoon/evening and then do a few more hours later on.

There is no clock watching, if your work is done, it is done. We also have people all over the world so nothing is expected to be done instantly, its all just emailed and done on the persons next working shift, due to timezones. Also, everyone knows their work and just does it.

Charities don't pay well, that's why there is so much flexibility.

HR is decently well paid and very flexible. They have to live by their values don’t they? If you can demonstrate transferable skills then you could maybe go straight to Advisor level (£35k ish). If you wanted to start as an HRBP then do CIPD level 7.

Search for family friendly/flexible working awards and you’ll have business's coming up.
I currently work for a very flexible business and it’s a lifesaver
