SSP

I've raised a query with my manager, who has passed it on to payroll but whilst I'm waiting for a reply, just hoping someone can help.

I was off sick for 6.5 weeks.
5 of these weeks, I received full SSP of £109 p/w.

Pay is fortnightly.

I went back to work last Thursday, so halfway through a week.
Payday today and I received 10hrs full pay (for the hours I worked) but only £15 SSP.
Considering I had 1.5wks SSP still to be paid, I can't for the life of me work out how I've only been paid £15!?

I'm on a zero hours contract but my average is 26hrs (worked out since April).

Just wondering if there anyone who works in payroll who may be able to explain why I have only received £15 for 1.5wks?

Thanks! :)

I can't tell you what the correct figures are, but I can tell you that you have made an error - if you were off sick for 6.5 weeks and got paid for 5 of them already, then you aren't entitled to another 1.5 weeks of SSP because SSP isn't paid for the first 3 days of sickness.

My sick note didn't start until I'd already been off for a week.
I was off from 1st October, my official sick note started on 11th November.

*10th October, not November

@somethingisnotquiteright @Neriah is correct, your self certification is the start of sick absence and so the first 3 working days are unpaid. SSP would then start on the 4th working day.

You are paid fortnightly so it is possible you may have missed payroll close date for the last few days SSP.

That still doesn't add up. If you self-certified from 1st then your fit note should have started on 8th, not 11th. So you would not have been due SSP for 1st - 3rd October inclusive, but there also seems to be a gap from 8th - 10th. Did you return to work on those days?

Also you said that your average hours were worked out in April. For SSP purposes the relevant period for entitlement is the 8 weeks before your last payday before sickness. April is too long ago.

You really need to ask your employer how they have calculated this, and then if it isn't correct come back here. If there was a gap from 8th - 10th for which you neither provided a fit note nor attended work, that would mean that sick pay isn't payable for those days, so you may have been overpaid.
