Hello, I have been suffering with a hidden disability for a long time. I'm setting up independently and have been told that Access to Work might be able to support me.

Have you used AtW to support you in your work? Please can you share what support you have accessed and how this has added capacity for you to manage your business more effectively.

I am trying to establish what to do and how to apply. I have been ill for a long time and had no idea that this was available to support someone like me.

Thank you for your advice. I'd also appreciate any links to communities online with forums for guidance in the process please.

It really depends what your needs are and the extent to which someone would be enabling you to do the work vs doing the work for you.

As you know disabilities can be very different and in my experience AtW is specific to the person. It can be paying for taxi ‘s because public transport is a no go, paying for DSE equipment e.g. voice recognition software, chair, mouse etc., paying for a support worker etc.

Just apply on the access to work website, and that is all you need to do for now. The waiting time to hear back is about 16 weeks unless you are starting a new job.
