I’ve been with my present employer for 18 years and have worked my way up from very part time receptionist to Senior Data Administrator.
I have been working without a Practice Manager now for a year as they left abruptly after a breakdown in relationship with the partners (GP Practice).
Ive taken over a lot of their role and have been given a small token payrise after applying for a similar role elsewhere and the partners felt they needed to keep me.
I feel I’m capable of more and applied for the PM job when it was advertised but they called me aside and said that they had decided to freeze recruitment as they were looking at a merger soon but that I would be ‘front and centre’ in their plans when that happened. (This was six months ago). since then, I have taken on more roles and responsibilities and, to be honest feel pretty disheartened and a bit bored.
I approached the Partners formally and suggested some extra jobs I could do for them, gave an updated duties list of what I am currently doing and asked for a wage that I thought was appropriate (half way between my current wage and the previous PMs wage given that they are doing some of her work as well).
they acknowledged the letter said they would discuss at a Partners’ meeting at the beginning of November and get back to me. (They have not, just keep saying ‘well done’)
I’m wondering if my length of service and commitment to the Surgery are being seen as a weakness and they will keep me in my place and not progress my career as they think I will just accept it?
Im extremely anxious about starting over but I’m a single mum to four DC and obviously money talks (I also need my mind occupying otherwise I get depressed).
I should add they are now looking at a time frame of 2 years for a potential merger and at 46yo I’m not sure I can wait around.
I have started an Office Management course at my own expense.
sorry for the length of post.

They are getting the work from you without having to pay. You sound like you are good at your job an another practice would welcome you!
