Don't understand how to change career

I have ADHD which I've only recently realised is the likely explanation for my inability to plan and make progress!

I am academically high achieving, but that's easy because of the structure. The process of making progress is clearly laid out.

I was a teacher in my twenties, I made good progress here (leadership at 30) but I didn't enjoy it and left. Since then I've drifted, doing odd bits of part time work.

I need a career. People with my qualifications and my age are earning very good money, just not me.

I literally don't understand HOW to formulate a plan, or know HOW to find a direction. I've tried two careers advice services and neither have helped. They assume a level of independent research skills I don't have.

Can someone please spell it out for me? Like you're talking to an alien? What steps do i need to take, in what order, to achieve a successful career?

Hi there, look into career shifters, it’s a very good online programme for helping you identify and approach a career change. it is not cheap but good value.

Otherwise, I’d say:
forget about trying to find the ‘ideal’ career.
identify two or three options and really look into them eg talk to people in the field, look into study paths or at job descriptions (but mainly talk to actual people). then pick one.

keep a journal, take note in particular of any interests or insights that really resonate with you (whether topics like finance or education, or skills like problem-solving or caring for others). Then follow those insights further.

what did you like or not like about teaching, what made you leave, what if anything have you found appealing since?

What is important to you? Money, status, doing good, being good at something, progression, visibility, fulfilment..?

Thank you so much. Career shifters looks brilliant.
