Potential new job - stay or go?

So let me start by saying I love my job. It's interesting and the people I work with are fab. However it's office based, little flexibility and can sometimes be quite confrontational being 2 small teams working very closely. I don't earn a lot (23k) and there's very little chance for progression - I've been here 5 years and I'm still in the same role, nothing to move up to as of yet.
Dilemma - my DB has a fabulous remote working job, with travel to the office on an ad hoc basis which is optional anyway. The hours are great, they are happy to provide term time working which would be amazing as I have a DD, the money is 25k for the role however DB started in this role 18m ago and has already progressed to a 40k basic plus very favourable commission. He adores it there - the people are great, it's a very modern workplace with huge perks and they listen to what the staff want. Plenty of socials.
I work in the same sector, but doing a very different job however my skills are very transferable and DB says I will almost certainly get the job. I interview tomorrow.

I'm also living in an area I don't want to be in - I don't know anyone other than my work colleagues and my DD's father who has recently moved 40 minutes away anyway. The new job is remote and I could work from anywhere.

So what do I do? Theoretically if I got offered the job - do I take it and risk the change or do I stick at a place that I'm fairly comfortable? I need outside, honest perspectives!

This sounds like a no brainier! If you get it you have to go. No chance of progression at that salary isn’t worth it

best of luck in interview!

Take it and risk the change. Changing your job after 5 years is a really reasonable length of time there to now move up a step salary wise. If it doesn't work out at DB's place you can always look for another new job.

Trickedbyadoughnut · 09/11/2023 07:45

Yeah, I would look to move in those circumstances (and I hate change 😆).

100% go for the change! It sounds like a no brainier.

Thanks everyone - I'm on the spectrum and routine is everything to me, I hate change and as I'm comfortable as I am, the thought of all of that change petrifies me however reading my post back, it does seem daft not to take the opportunity if it arises!

Ah yes, me too and I really identified with your thinking in your OP.

I try to remind myself that the pre-change bit is the worse - once the change has happened it just switches to being the new normal.

I.e., we had to move out of our rental in 2020 and I stressed and worried and fretted for nine months of the year's notice we had and didn't want to move. Once we moved, and I really mean immediately, I was totally fine. In fact, I love our new place!

Does that sound familiar?

Aurasauras · 09/11/2023 08:59

How is this even a question???? Go for it!

FreshStartAgain23 · 09/11/2023 09:09

@Trickedbyadoughnut so pleased it all worked out for you! And yes, it's the torment beforehand of all of the 'what if's' and risk. I'm sure I would be absolutely fine!
